Covid-19 - Back to Work
Monday 8th June
We are committed to safe resumption of our domiciliary dental visits and clinics with a focus on protecting patients, team members and care home/hospital staff. We resumed work as of the week beginning 15th June 2020 but please be aware of the following:
Our priority is to keep patients and staff as safe as possible during this very difficult time. While we will do our best to offer a good service the normal range of clinical treatments cannot currently be provided. The following restrictions apply to general dental treatment at our clinics:
Patients with COVID or whose responses to the COVID Screening Questionnaire indicate that they may be developing symptoms will not be seen. We are able to provide telephone triage and in case of emergency such patients can be referred to an Urgent Dental Care Hub.
All patients offered an appointment or attending a clinic will be asked to wash their hands before attending and to complete a COVID Screening Questionnaire. Escorts will be asked to wear a mask and complete a COVID Screening Questionnaire. Patients and escorts will be asked to use hand sanitiser on arrival at clinic. Dental teams will be using more PPE than usual – which may include: gloves, masks, protective goggles, visors, gowns, aprons, hair and shoe covers.
Face to face contact time between patients and the dental team will be kept to a minimum.
There will be longer gaps between appointments to allow for extra cleaning and cross-infection processes, especially when a potentially aerosol generating treatment has taken place.
Where possible, aerosol-generating procedures will be avoided or kept to a minimum. Where unavoidable, they will take place towards the end of a clinic; therefore a patient may attend for assessment and be asked to return at a later time.
The following treatments are currently available to patients without referral:
Category A (non-aerosol generating)
Examination of the mouth using a mirror only
Visual and digital examination of the head and neck
Visual and digital examination of the dentate or edentulous mouth
Category B (potentially aerosol generating)
Taking intra-oral radiographs
BPE and periodontal charting
Simple non-invasive fillings without the use of high speed handpieces
Non surgical extractions (after risk assessment)
Medical management of soft tissue presentations (e.g, ulcers)
Temporomandibular dysfunction management
Preventative procedures such as application of topical fluoride
Hand scaling not involving ultrasonic scaler
